Republican dating liberal

The Liberal Republican Party of the United States was a political party formed in 1872 to oppose the reelection of President Ulysses S. The party's candidate in that year's presidential election was Horace Greeley, longtime publisher of the New York Tribune.

Instances of interpolitical tenderness are about as rare as Congress passing a bill.Among adults who have completed college but have not attended graduate school (approximately 16% of the public), 44% have consistently or mostly liberal political values, while 29% have at least mostly conservative values; 27% have mixed ideological views.By contrast, among the majority of adults who do not have a college degree (72% of the public in 2015), far fewer express liberal opinions. And it's gotten worse in recent years: In 1960, 4% of Democrats and 5% of Republicans said they'd be displeased if their children married an opposing party member; in 2010, those numbers were up to 33% of Democrats and 49% of Republicans. The polarized political environment has clearly impacted the married generations older than us.Greeley was seen as an oddball reformer with no government experience and a long record of vehement attacks against the very Democrats he now called on for support.
